“Riveting, unpredictable and keeps you guessing. We feel the characters’ confusion, frustration and determination to uncover the truth thanks to the author’s seamless transition from present day to flashbacks. I highly recommend this mind-boggling book to fans of psychological thrillers and romantic intrigue.”Romantic Times, TOP PICK!

Unpredictable, unputdownable, and simply epic.” —Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author of the REAL Series

“Calia Read has a way of making me feel as if I’m living inside her books. Unhinge is a haunting story that gripped me instantly and left me immersed in the world of Fairfax. I love it when books make such a lasting impression.” —Willow Aster, USA Today bestselling author of True Love Story

With Unravel, Calia Read took readers inside the mind of a tormented young woman confined in Fairfax Mental Institute, seemingly without cause. In her new standalone novel of psychological suspense, UNHINGE (Ballantine Trade Paperback, On Sale 1/12/16), Read takes us back to Fairfax, this time to meet a very different patient, equally trapped, but doubly lost.

Hold your breath and count to ten.

Soon it will be over before it ever began.

No matter how many times Victoria Donovan repeats that rhyme to herself, she’s still locked inside a mental institution.

Once upon a time, her life was a fantasy: Wes, the handsome fiancé, a storybook wedding and a white picket fence. But then a picture-perfect marriage warped into something sinister. As Victoria’s world twisted from dream to nightmare, her husband’s jealousy pushed her beyond the breaking point.

Calia Read breaks the mold in this explosive story that grabs hold and doesn’t let go until the shocking truth is revealed. UNHINGE is about a woman trying to reconstruct her past and find the truth somewhere between her memories and her madness with the help of a handsome, mysterious stranger.

Unhinge is part of a series but can definitely be a read as standalone. I have not read the first book in this series, but that will be quickly changing.

Unhinge is written an unique way differently from other books in this genre. It’s written in the present tense told from Victoria’s POV. She has stopped taking her medication and is trying to find out why she is at Fairfax and how long she’s been there. She believes it’s been three years, when it’s only been 6 months.

“Hold your breath and count to ten. Soon it will be over before it ever began.”

Her doctor is slowly trying to help her gain her memory back through pictures but with visits also from Sinclair Montgomery and her husband, Wes, nothing seems right to her. As her memories slowly come back to her, Victoria is put through a very chaotic mess.

Unhinge is very twisted, yet crafty suspenseful book. Calia does a fabulous job giving you just enough information to make you think you have it all pieced together, then wham!  The ending threw me through a huge loop. Totally unexpected and never saw it coming.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series!

”Instead of looking at me,” he says, “perhaps you should consider looking at yourself. Maybe you’re the villain in the story of us. After all, you’re the one who’s locked away. Not me.”
